The Infirmary got started about 25 years ago, as a Sunday night jam session. Original members were family and friends, and after this long we're all pretty much family now.

The original Sunday night schedule has been in effect from day one, rarely missing a beat. Xmas is probably the only holiday that hasn't had a jam played, and we may have even done that too. Super Bowl, Thanksgiving, whatever... the jam is still on.

Most of the material has always been cover songs, with a few istrumental jams thrown in. Over the years that balance has tipped, and a cover hasn't been played in years. The music is pretty simple now, typically 2 - 4 chord jams. We just get a groove going, and see what happens. Lyrics and melody are improvised on the spot. When things work out well it may become a song, going into regular rotation for a while.

At one time there was a computer system in place, to call up songs from a database of hundreds of originals and covers. That went into the dustbin after covers were dropped. The programmer went on to put together a career in IT... and this web site.

There have been dozens of players who have made nights at the Infirmary part of their regular weekly plans. Some stick around for decades, some just pass through and move on. We're pretty casual about the level of players, as long as they don't hold us back. The right attitude goes a long way around here. At the Infirmary, we say you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave...
